Jill Biden appears on Vogue cover

Jill Biden has been dubbed “a first lady for all of us” as she graces the cover of the latest issue of Vogue.

The first lady poses on the Truman Balcony at the White House in an Oscar de la Renta dress on the front of the fashion magazine’s August issue, with an interview released Tuesday.

In the profile, Biden tells Vogue’s Jonathan Van Meter that the mood of the country has changed post-President Trump.

“During the campaign, I felt so much anxiety from people; they were scared,” Biden, 70, said.

“When I travel around the country now, I feel as though people can breathe again. I think that’s part of the reason Joe was elected,” she added. “People wanted someone to come in and heal this nation, not just from the pandemic, which I feel Joe did by, you know, getting shots in everybody’s arms. But also … he’s just a calmer president. He lowers the temperature.”

Biden fronting Vogue comes after Melania Trump was famously not among the first ladies given the magazine’s cover treatment.

In 2019, when asked why the then-president’s wife had not been appeared on the cover of Vogue as first lady, Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour — who campaigned for Biden during the 2020 White House race — replied, “I think it’s important for Vogue to support women who are leading change in this country.”

Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, slammed the publication following Wintour’s remark, saying at the time, “To be on the cover of Vogue doesn’t define Mrs. Trump, she’s been there, done that long before she was first lady.” Grisham also said Trump’s role as first lady “is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover.”

In the Vogue piece, President Biden opened up about how becoming commander in chief has affected the couple’s marriage.

“I miss her,” he said. “I’m really proud of her. But it’s not like we can just go off like we used to. When we were living in Delaware and married, once a month we’d just go up to a local bed-and-breakfast by ourselves, to make sure we had a romantic time to just get away and hang out with each other.”

“I’m not complaining. It’s part of the deal,” Biden added. “But this life prevents it.”

While reportedly expressing hesitation to talk about her style with the fashion mag, Jill Biden did weigh in on the fixation on her wardrobe choices, and one notable sartorial selection.

“It’s kind of surprising, I think, how much commentary is made about what I wear or if I put my hair in a scrunchie. I put my hair up!” Biden exclaimed.

“Or the stocking thing.…” the community college professor added, an apparent reference to a much-buzzed-about pair of tights she wore while stepping off Air Force One in April.

“It’s amazing how much people pay attention to every little detail,” she told Vogue. “And they weren’t fishnets. They weren’t lace. They were very pretty stockings.”
