UPDATED: Sylvester Stallone denies joining Trump’s Mar-a-Lago

Sylvester Stallone says he has not become a member of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Fla., denying previous reports.

Stallone “has never been and is not now a member of Mar-a-Lago as has been falsely reported,” a spokesperson told People magazine in a statement.

“He was an invited dinner guest at the Club but is not himself a member there,” the statement said. “He is, however, a member of the Breakers Club in Palm Beach.”

A source at the club had told Page Six last week that “Sly just became a member of Mar-a-Lago,” referring to the “Rocky” and “Rambo” star, who they said had been spotted at the club last month.

The club’s management did not respond to The Hill’s request for comment.

Stallone has supported Republican presidential candidates in the past, including endorsing former Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president in 2008, but did not endorse Trump during either of his campaigns. The two have spoken in the past, however, and the former president pardoned the late heavyweight boxing legend Jack Johnson in 2018 after revealing that he received a call from Stallone urging him to do so.

The actor was also a guest for Mar-a-Lago’s New Year’s Eve celebration at the end of 2016. That same month, he told BuzzFeed that he would not take a job as chairman of the National Endowment of the Arts under Trump, explaining at the time that he would prefer to work on finding housing and employment for returning veterans.

“I am incredibly flattered to have been suggested to be involved with the National Endowment of the Arts,” Stallone said in December 2016. “However I believe I could be more effective by bringing national attention to returning military personnel in an effort to find gainful employment, suitable housing and financial assistance these heroes respectfully deserve.”
