Beyoncé thanks Meghan for ‘courage and leadership’ after Oprah interview

Beyoncé sent a message of support to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, this week following her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in which she detailed the harassment from tabloids she experienced as well as her mental health struggles as a working member of the British royal family.

“Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership,” Beyoncé wrote in a post on her website. “We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”

The recording artist shared the message along with a photo of her and the duchess formerly known as Meghan Markle meeting at the U.K. premiere for the 2019 remake of “The Lion King.”

During her interview, Meghan shared that she did not feel protected by the royal family once she married Prince Harry in 2018, and said she did not receive help when she revealed that she had been struggling with suicidal thoughts.

She also alleged that an unnamed member of the royal family had expressed “concerns” about the skin tone of her child, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, before he was born.

Beyoncé has previously indicated support for Meghan, displaying a painting of her during her acceptance speech with her husband Jay-Z for their joint album “Everything Is Love” at the 2019 Brit Awards.

Following the Oprah interview, Meghan has received criticism as well as widespread support from many celebrities, including from tennis legend Serena Williams, who attended Meghan’s wedding to Harry.

“Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion,” Williams wrote on Twitter. “She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced.”
