Chadwick Boseman posthumously nominated for NAACP awards

Actor Chadwick Boseman was posthumously nominated for two NAACP Image Awards on Tuesday for his work in last year’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Da 5 Bloods.”

Boseman’s nominations for outstanding actor for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and outstanding supporting actor for “Da 5 Bloods” were announced during an Instagram Live broadcast, Variety reported.

The two performances are also thought to be top contenders for Academy Award nominations.

Other lead actor nominees include Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, Anthony Mackie and Delroy Lindo. Boseman’s competition in the supporting actor category includes Aldis Hodge, Clarke Peters, Colman Domingo and Glynn Turman.

Boseman, 43, died last year after a private battle with colon cancer, shocking his legions of fans, whose numbers grew exponentially following his 2018 starring role in “Black Panther,” Marvel’s first movie centered around a Black superhero.

Tony Award-winning actress Anika Noni-Rose, actress Chloe Bailey, and actor and choreographer Nicco Annan co-hosted Tuesday’s nominations ceremony, marking the 52nd year of the NAACP Image Awards.
