Fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli reports to federal prison over college admission scandal

Fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, actress Lori Loughlin’s husband, began his prison sentence in connection with the college admissions scandal at California’s Federal Correctional Complex Lompoc on Thursday.

Giannulli was sentenced to five months for his role in the plot, according to CNN, while Loughlin, who was sentenced to two months, began her sentence in October.

While several other high-profile defendants in the scandal, including actress Felicity Huffman, pleaded guilty, Loughlin and Giannulli initially pleaded not guilty. In May, however, they reached an agreement with prosecutors that would involve both pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud. Giannulli also pleaded guilty to honest services wire and mail fraud.

“Under the plea agreements filed today, these defendants will serve prison terms reflecting their respective roles in a conspiracy to corrupt the college admissions process and which are consistent with prior sentences in this case,” U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling said in May after the deal was announced. “We will continue to pursue accountability for undermining the integrity of college admissions.”

The couple pleaded guilty to paying $500,000 to William “Rick” Singer, the alleged mastermind behind the scheme, to ensure their daughters were admitted to college. Giannulli has also agreed to pay a $250,000 fine and do 250 hours of community service and two years of supervised release.
