Kanye West takes out two full pages in New York Times to tout candidacy

Kanye West took out two full pages of The New York Times for a campaign ad ahead of next week’s presidential election. 

In an open letter titled “Dear Future,” the rapper-turned-mogul outlines a vision for America, in which the world is at peace and everyone is held accountable to love. 

“I still believe in you,” West wrote. “We still believe in you. Even in our darkest moments, we believe.” 

West then writes that “we” believe in “a world at peace,” “our people,” and “our families.” He then says America will “H.E.A.L,” which stands for “Hold Everyone Accountable to Love.” 

The 43-year-old rapper also paints a picture of an ideal America which values families “at every stage of life,” treats everyone fairly, and provides education that promotes “freedom and visionary thinking.” 

“Our happy, healthy future looks like the new Garden of Eden with children running and the elderly brimming with joy on how beautiful our world has become,” West writes. 

West further outlines his ideal future for America, and ties it to his faith:

“Jesus loves everyone. When I close my eyes, I see our God providing us with a bright future. I feel like a kid that night before Christmas when I think about our future.” 

“I know the world is going to get better, but you need us as a people to heal. You need us to hold everyone accountable to love,” West writes. “God is love, Let’s lead with love. Our future is waiting.” 

A representative for the rapper told Page Six that the ad “is his open letter on how he envisions the Future of America should be.” According to the news outlet, the letter was accompanied by a video of the businessman in which he outlined his religious beliefs as the foundation for his political efforts. 

“We as a people will revive our nation’s commitment to faith to what our Constitution calls the free exercise of religion including, of course, prayer,” West said in the clip, according to Page Six. “Through prayer, faith can be restored. We, as a people, are called to a greater service than ourselves.”

West first announced his candidacy in July, and has been knocked off the ballot in several states since then.

The campaign has been viewed with suspicion by many given West’s previous support for President Trump. His candidacy appeared at times to be an effort to take away votes from Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

West previously said he was “not denying” that his campaign, which has been linked to GOP operatives, is seeking to hurt Biden.

Earlier this month, he released his first campaign ad calling on the country to vote for him as a write-in candidate.
