‘Bachelor in Paradise’ star slams ‘homophobic’ tweet after revealing the show’s first same-sex romance
“Bachelor in Paradise” star Demi Burnett is slamming a Twitter user as “homophobic” for saying she will not watch the upcoming season after it was announced that Burnett is in the show’s first same-sex relationship.
Twitter user Judith Taylor responded to Burnett’s tweet announcing that she is a “queer queen,” saying that this is the first season she will not be watching the show “due to the same sex disgusting behavior on screen.”
Burnett replied Wednesday:
Spoiler alert: I’m a queer queen #BachelorInParadise

The moment you described the relationship as disgusting is the moment you claimed yourself as homophobic https://t.co/rSnrWJR0Hw

This is not the first time Burnett, an interior designer who first appeared in the franchise during Colton Underwood’s season of “The Bachelor,” has defended its sexual politics this week. On Tuesday, she responded to a tweet calling for a separate iteration of “The Bachelor” for LGBTQ people.
I know you’re trying to mean well, however, the goal is for the LGBTQ+ community to not be viewed as separate. Saying they need a “rainbow bachelor” is a bit homophobic. We are all humans. Segregation based on sexuality needs to die. Coexist motha fucka https://t.co/JPpg1E7dDb

The announcement that the show would feature its first same-sex couple came when its trailer was released earlier this week. During the preview, Burnett reveals that she is in love with another woman on the series.
“I don’t care who sees this,” Burnett says before a clip of her kissing a female contestant. “I know that I love this girl. I’m just so happy that I found her, and I can definitely picture being with her for the rest of my life.”
