Lifetime plans Jeffrey Epstein docuseries, ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ sequel: report

Lifetime announced Tuesday that a documentary titled “Surviving Jeffrey Epstein” is in the works, a project that will look into sex trafficking charges against the billionaire financier, similar to the network’s headline-making “Surviving R. Kelly,” which is now getting a sequel.

Last month, Epstein pleaded not guilty to charges that he abused dozens of underage girls from 2002 to 2005. Epstein has said all of the encounters were consensual and that he believed the victims were 18.

{mosads}In 2008, he accepted a plea deal on separate sex trafficking charges and was sentenced to 13 months in prison.

The new documentary is in development with Bungalow Media and entertainment, Variety first reported. Rob Sharenow, president of programming at A+E Networks, announced it at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Sharenow also announced a four-part series titled “Surviving R. Kelly: The Aftermath” that will update the Emmy-nominated docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly.” It will feature interviews from new people who allege sexual abuse against the R&B star, as well as interviews with psychologists and experts on his case.

After the original series aired, Kelly faced widespread public backlash and was indicted by a federal grand jury on more than a dozen counts of sex crimes and obstruction of justice. He is also facing 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. A judge ordered that Kelly be held without bail last week.

“The Aftermath” will be executive produced by Joel Karsberg, Jessie Daniels, dream hampton, Tamra Simmons, Maria Pepin and Brie Miranda Bryant. Sudi Khosropur will serve as co-executive producer and showrunner, according to Variety.
