“Captain America” star and Boston native Chris Evans says he may have to “cut ties” with Tom Brady if the New England Patriots quarterback still supports President Trump, whom Evans referred to as a “dumb shit.”

The actor told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Wednesday that he doesn’t know whether he would be interested in playing Brady in a biopic if given the opportunity.

{mosads}”I really hope he’s not a Trump supporter. I’m just hoping he’s one of those guys that maybe supported him and now regrets it. Maybe he thought it was going to be different — and even that bothers me — but maybe there’s a chance now he just thinks Trump’s an absolute dumb shit, which he is. If he doesn’t, if he’s still on that Trump train, I might have to cut ties. It’s really tough,” Evans said.

Evans added that he hopes Brady has “woken up.”

“I think maybe a couple of years ago, I might have tried to pull some, like, mental gymnastics to compartmentalize, but I don’t know if I can anymore. So I’m just hoping he’s woken up,” he said.

In 2015, when Trump was campaigning for president, Brady displayed a “Make America Great Again” hat in his locker. He has also called Trump a friend on multiple occasions.

But the NFL star has since often declined to comment when asked about Trump. He also called Trump’s comments “divisive” in 2017 after the president repeatedly criticized NFL players who sat or kneeled during the national anthem.

Brady’s wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, is a vocal Trump critic.

Trump also has a years-long friendship with Patriots owner Robert Kraft and coach Bill Belichick, and he correctly picked the team to beat to the Los Angeles Rams in last month’s Super Bowl.

“They have a very special owner and coach, and certainly they have, I guess, the greatest quarterback of all time,” Trump said in February.

Brady did not attend the Patriots’ most recent Super Bowl victory visit to the White House.
