‘Art of the Deal’ co-author: Trump is likely ‘in a rage’ over Mueller probe, election results

The co-author of President Trump’s 1987 best-selling book “The Art of the Deal” said Trump is “in a rage right now” over special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and the results of Tuesday’s elections, which saw widespread Democratic victories.

“I think he’s in a rage right now,” Tony Schwartz said in a Wednesday appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber.” “I think he’s in a rage most of all about Mueller. Because Mueller stands to really topple the whole building.”

Mueller is leading a federal probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, including any possible collusion between Trump’s campaign and Moscow.

“I think it’s exacerbated by the fact that he seems to be taking blame for what happened last night, and all the statistics suggest rightfully so,” Schwartz continued. “So I think he’s in a really highly activated and aroused state.”

Trump took to Twitter Tuesday night following the results of the Virginia governor’s race, knocking Republican candidate Ed Gillespie for his loss to Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam.

“Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for. Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!” Trump said, referring to special elections earlier this year.

{mosads}Schwartz said Trump’s tweet shows he likely isn’t done responding to Tuesday’s election results and warned that Trump is likely to unleash a “whole flurry of activity” about the election once he returns from his Asia trip.

The author also charged that Trump knows that he is a “con man.”

“What Trump does, if you read his tweets when he’s talking about other people, almost invariably he’s describing himself, and that was the case in the book,” Schwartz said.

“Of course, he hadn’t yet decided to run for president,” he continued. “But that notion that he’s a con man? Believe me, that’s deep inside what he knows himself to be.”

Schwartz has been critical of Trump in the past, predicting that Trump would resign by the end of the year and saying Mueller would find out Trump was worth “vastly less” than he claims.
