Sarah Palin: ‘Couldn’t be happier’ about daughter Bristol’s engagement
Bristol Palin’s engaged to a Medal of Honor recipient, and her mom says the couple’s families “couldn’t be happier.”
The 24-year-old daughter of the former GOP vice presidential candidate announced in a weekend blog post that she accepted a proposal from Dakota Meyer, a former Marine and 2011 Medal of Honor recipient. The pair met during filming of a reality show for the Sportsman Channel last year.
Bristol Palin, a “Dancing With the Stars” alum who has a son, Tripp, with ex-fiancee Levi Johnston, offered details of how Meyer popped the question on Friday, writing, “He’s so romantic! He asked me to marry him at a Rascal Flatts concert.”
After the lead singer of the country music band crooned “Bless the Broken Road” to the soon-to-be-engaged duo, Palin says, “Dakota got down on one knee and proposed!”
Sarah Palin wrote on Facebook, “We’re honored to welcome Dakota into our family. He’s an American hero and patriot whose service to our country — like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients — has been above and beyond the call of duty.” The former Alaska governor added, “But even more important is he’s a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them.”
Meyer, 26, said he “can’t wait” to spend the rest of his life with Palin and her six-year-old son. He wrote on Facebook, “For the first time in a long time I can honestly say the best is yet to come!”
