Weiner enters the kitchen

Ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner is used to the flame-throwing world of Washington politics, but now he’s reportedly firing up plans to start a restaurant.

The New York Democrat, who resigned from Congress in 2011 following a sexting scandal, is involved in a project called the Rockaway Restoration Kitchen, according to the Rockaway Times.

A website describes the Queens, N.Y.-based nonprofit venture as a “culinary workplace participation program” in an “active restaurant that makes money, serves quality food and gives trainees on-the-job experience.”

The yet-to-be-built eatery, which appears to be in the early planning stages, says it aims to train ” ‘second chance’ unemployed who have had problems getting and holding jobs because of a history of substance abuse, incarceration or heath problems” for its staff.

Weiner, who made an unsuccessful bid for New York City mayor last year, “is still looking for a home for this enterprise,” the local paper writes.

The food business wouldn’t be Weiner’s only post-politics endeavor — the disgraced former congressman also pens a column about hockey for Business Insider

Weiner confirmed plans for the restaurant in a reply to former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) on Twitter:
