Holland Taylor and Broadway star Ana Villafañe are set to star as a pair of lawmakers in a new play seemingly inspired by real-life members of Congress, Democratic Reps. Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.).

“The Morning Show’s” Taylor will play “N” while Villafañe, who portrayed Gloria Estefan in “On Your Feet!,” will play “A” in the Off-Broadway production of “N/A,” the production announced Friday.

The show, poised to begin previews on June 11 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City, is described as the story of “two congresswomen,  generations apart” in a play about “power, politics, and the perilous path to progress.”

“‘N/A’ is a a whip smart battle of wills — and wits — between N, the first woman Speaker of the House, and A, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress,” according to a news release.

“This riveting two-hander illuminates the person whom many consider the most powerful woman in American history…and the once-in-a-generation political talent who defied her.”

Pelosi made history in 2007 as the first woman to hold the Speaker’s gavel, before stepping down as the House Democratic leader last year. A then-29-year-old Ocasio-Cortez became the youngest woman elected to Congress in 2018.

While the team behind “N/A” said the show is “inspired by real people and events,” Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez are not named in any promotional materials. A representative for the show told ITK that the characters are fictional but “you can draw your own conclusions.”

It’s not the first time that 81-year-old Taylor has taken on the role of a famed political figure. In 2013, she scored a Tony Award nomination after writing and starring in Broadway’s “Ann,” about late Texas Gov. Ann Richards (D).

“N/A,” which is scheduled for an eight-week run, was penned by congressional staffer-turned-playwright Mario Correa, who once worked as an aide to former Rep. Connie Morella (R-Md.).
