What DC has to say about Taylor Swift’s new album

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are not immune to the allure of pop star Taylor Swift, especially on album release days. Politicians in Washington took to social media Friday to sing the star’s praises after she released her latest album.

Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” dropped Friday, giving fans — including some lawmakers — new lyrics to memorize and melodies to sing.

“I got votes in the morning. Do I sleep or listen,” Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) posted on the social platform X early Friday morning, seemingly referring to Swift’s new music.

Frost’s post came around the same time Swift revealed the album had a second part at 2 a.m. EDT Friday.

“Congratulations @taylorswift13 on the release of The Tortured Poets Department,” Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) posted on X. “Can’t wait to give it a listen.”

Casey’s post also featured a photo of a handwritten note in which he referenced Swift referring to herself as “The Chairman of the Tortured Poets Department” while promoting the album.

“From one chairman to another, congratulations,” the note reads.

Lawmakers weren’t the only ones on Capitol Hill enamored with the singer’s new album — federal department heads such as acting Labor Secretary Julie Su was swept up in the excitement, as well.

Su appeared to crack a joke in response to one of Swift’s posts about the release of “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“Is this department unionized?” Su said in a post on X.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) posted a photo of a friendship bracelet on X similar to those often made and worn by Swift’s fans during the Eras Tour. The bracelet reads, “DIGNITY OF WORK”.

“Hey @taylorswift13, I heard these friendship bracelets never go out of style. Neither does our fight for the Dignity of Work,” Brown said in his Friday post.

The Hill has reached out to Frost’s office.
