Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis will portray Michelle Obama in a series about first ladies throughout history in development by Showtime, Variety reported Monday.
“First Ladies” will reportedly focus on the personal and political lives of first ladies throughout America’s history. Season One will feature Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford.
{mosads}Novelist Aaron Cooley will write and executive-produce the show, according to Variety.
Davis and her partner Julius Tennon will reportedly serve as nonwriting executive producers on the show.
Obama has previously been portrayed by Tika Sumpter in the 2016 movie “Southside With You.”
The former first lady and her husband, former President Barack Obama, signed a multiyear contract with Netflix last year to create new content.
They recently released “American Factory,” a documentary film looking at American factories.
