The former co-host of “The View,” Meghan McCain ripped the “trash” upcoming musical featuring her late father, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“This is trash – nothing more than a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, in reaction to Deadline’s Tuesday article stating the musical “Ghost of John McCain” will debut this fall.

“I hope it bombs,” she added.

The musical comedy is set inside the brain of former President Trump and was written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola.

Elmegreen said the show was created by Grant Woods, former state attorney general and McCain’s ex-congressional chief of staff, according to Entertainment Weekly

The show reportedly has its own spin on the relationship between Trump and the late senator. The senator died in 2018 after battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

In reaction to her post on X, Elmegreen gave a lengthy statement where he called the late senator a “universally respected and important figure.”

“Ghost of John McCain is a psychological exploration of what that might be like for the senator, as he gathers a ‘Greek Chorus’ coalition of Hillary Clinton, Eva Perón, Teddy Roosevelt, Taylor Swift, and everyone else squatting rent free up there to rebel against the former president’s relentless demands for affirmation. We hope that their journey can continue the senator’s legacy of inspiring all of us to do whatever we can for the causes of justice and freedom,” he said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly

Elmegreen told the outlet their team has been in touch with the McCain family since 2021.

“Meghan and her husband were invited to our reading of the show this past winter, and they will be invited to our upcoming reading on May 9 as well. We think they will love it, just as audiences have to date.”

“Ghost of John McCain” will run through Nov. 5 and take place at SoHo Playhouse.

After leaving “The View,” McCain joined the Daily Mail as a columnist and has a podcast called “Meghan McCain Has Entered The Chat.”
