California Democrat celebrates Beyonce, Taylor Swift tour successes from House floor
A California Democrat is giving props on the House floor to Beyonce and Taylor Swift’s fanbases following the music stars’ record-breaking concert tours, saying “Swifties and the Beyhive showed their power.”
Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove took to the floor of the House on Thursday to “celebrate the triumph of Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour.”
“I experienced the Renaissance,” Kamlager-Dove said of the “Break My Soul” singer’s global tour, which had stops in Los Angeles in early September.
The tour “lays bare the experience of Black womanhood and tells us to leave our insecurities at the door,” Kamlager-Dove said. “We are crazy in love with the restorative power of music,” she added, a nod to Beyonce’s 2003 hit.
But the Grammy Award winner wasn’t the only performer to be on the receiving end of the lawmaker’s praise.
“This summer was dominated by female artists,” Kamlager-Dove said.
“Both Beyonce and Taylor Swift sold out shows at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where hundreds of thousands of my constituents celebrated with them, and where Swifties and the Beyhive showed their power.”
Kamlager-Dove lauded the chart-toppers for giving a jolt to local businesses.
“The Renaissance Tour has already grossed hundreds of millions of dollars, becoming Beyonce’s highest-grossing tour yet,” she said.
Swift helped give Philadelphia its best month of hotel revenue since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a report from the Federal Reserve.
“The Renaissance and Eras tours are stimulating economies across this country, keeping businesses open and keeping hearts healthy — everything this Congress is not doing,” Kamlager-Dove said.
“Even more than that, these concerts create safe spaces for women and the LGBTQ community,” the first-term representative said.
“We must continue to support the arts through our work in Congress — not by shutting down the government — to ensure that future generations of female artists can share their gifts with the world,” she said.
