Robert De Niro again tore into President Trump while speaking at a charity dinner in Los Angeles, calling him an “idiot” despite his Ivy League education.
“A college education is important, but education without humanity is ignorance,” De Niro said late Tuesday in remarks about the value of higher education, according to Variety.
“Look at our president,” he added. “He made it through [the] University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but he’s still an idiot.”
Trump has often bragged about his degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania to respond to criticism.
{mosads}“You know, people don’t understand. I went to an Ivy League college,” Trump said in October. “I was a nice student. I did very well. I’m a very intelligent person.”
In his remarks for Fulfillment Fund, an L.A.-based higher education fund he co-founded, De Niro said that Trump “lacks any sense of humanity or compassion,” and said that he would continue to speak out against the president, Variety reported.
“As long as our country’s leadership is so appalling and so corrupt, I’ll be speaking out at every venue,” De Niro said. “To be silent in the face of such villainy is to be complicit, and it’s especially appropriate tonight because Trump treats education as a con, a way to make a profit at the expense of the suckers.”
De Niro has been a harsh critic of Trump in the past. Earlier this year, he called Trump a “f—ing idiot” and a “f—ing fool,” laying into him for his treatment of the media.
“Our baby in chief — the jerkoff in chief, I call him — has put the press under siege, ridiculing it through trying to discredit it through outrageous attacks and lies,” he said at the time.
