Jenna Fischer deletes inaccurate tweet on GOP tax bill, issues lengthy apology

Actress Jenna Fischer on Wednesday issued a lengthy apology after an inaccurate tweet went viral stating that the Republican tax bill prevents teachers from deducting the cost of classroom supplies.

“I feel genuinely bad about getting my facts wrong and I’m sorry. I did not mean to spread misinformation. I was well-intentioned, but I was behind on my research,” Fischer wrote on Twitter.

Fischer last week wrote on Twitter that Congress passed a bill that eliminated the deduction for teachers. While the original House version scrapped the deduction, the final version of the bill restored the provision that allows teachers to deduct classroom spending up to $250. {mosads}

President Trump signed the bill into law on Friday, one day before Fischer’s original tweet.

Fischer’s tweet garnered tens of thousands of retweets, and drew backlash from some users who pointed out her mistake.

On Wednesday, Fischer, best known for her role as Pam in “The Office,” deleted the tweet and explained her reasoning.

“Listen, I love a good dialogue. In fact, what I treasure most about our democracy is the dialogue we share with each other, through conversations, social media and the press. But part of having a dialogue involves listening and learning and admitting when you’re wrong. Tweet deleted,” she wrote.
