Kimmel: Trump threat to NBC is ‘what dictators do’

Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday slammed President Trump for his threat to take away NBC News’s broadcast license, saying it’s something a dictator would do.

Kimmel responded to Trump’s tweet where the president asked “at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License?”

“Uh, never. I don’t know, because that’s what dictators do,” Kimmel said during his “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show. “Never is it appropriate to challenge their license.”

“It’s like the comic book of revelations. Everything Trump says is fake is true. Everything he says is honest is dishonest.”

Trump’s tweet was in response to an NBC News report that said the president wanted to expand the country’s nuclear arsenal.

The president’s suggestion that NBC should potentially have its broadcast license challenged prompted criticism from both sides of the aisle, with many saying that such a move would violate the First Amendment.

While NBC News itself does not have a license, local affiliates do have broadcast licenses.
