Obama: ‘I curse’ to deal with stress
How does President Obama blow off steam? With four-letter words.
Obama admits his penchant for bad language during a wide-ranging interview with comedian Jerry Seinfeld published Thursday morning.
{mosads}“I curse,” the president says when asked by Seinfeld how he copes with stress. “Bad stuff, or stupid stuff, is happening constantly. Every day. So you have to be able to just make fun of a lot of that. Like ‘that was even dumber and more annoying than usual.’ That’s when cursing is really valuable.”
Obama appears on Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” web series, exchanging jokes about everything from life in the White House to the color of the commander in chief’s underwear (they’re all the same).
The president has never talked publicly about his fondness for profanity, but at times it has been on display.
He defended his administration’s handling of the BP oil spill in 2010 by saying he was looking for “whose ass to kick.” And longtime ABC News White House correspondent Ann Compton said last year she witnessed Obama go on a “profanity-laced” tirade in an off-the-record session with reporters.
Curse words have also been used in the Obama White House on joyful occasions. Vice President Biden whispered into Obama’s ear that it was a “big f—— deal” when he signed the Affordable Care Act into law.
