Kathy Griffin is revealing she’s a Hillary Clinton supporter — even if, she says, she risks losing half of her audience.
“I’m told by my team, ‘Don’t say who you’re supporting. It’ll cost you ticket sales,’” the standup-comic, who’s currently touring the country, tells Billboard magazine in a story published Monday.
“F—k that. Yeah, I’m supporting Hillary, sue me,” the Emmy Award winner added.
{mosads}“At this stage in my career I’m less fearful then I was 20 years ago, and yeah, I’m supporting Hillary. It’s gonna be a struggle. If you think sexism is dead, wake up America,” the wisecracking actress and former “My Life on the D List” star contended.
“Look how hard we’ve been on the black guy,” Griffin, 55, said, referring to President Obama. “The black guy has had eight years of straight-up racism and I think it’s going to be harder on the chick. So yeah, I want Hillary to win and I think it’s going to be an incredibly difficult presidency for her because as the first woman everyone is going to be so tough on her.”
While Griffin says she doesn’t know the Democratic presidential frontrunner, if she did, she would ask her, “’Hillary, are you sure you want this? It’s going to be rough.’”
Last month, in an interview with ITK, Griffin slammed GOP White House hopeful Donald Trump, saying she was “more qualified” to run for president than the real estate mogul.
“I’ve been to Iraq and Afghanistan, and Donald Trump hasn’t,” the outspoken entertainer said. “It’d like you to tell Donald Trump that what he should be doing instead of running for office is getting my coffee.”
When confirming on Monday that she’s rooting for Clinton, Griffin exclaimed, “Yes… and so there goes half my audience!”
