Kobe Bryant’s latest sneaker pays tribute to Obama

Nike is releasing the Kobe X Elite “Commander” on Wednesday, a shoe that the company says was inspired by Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant’s relationship with President Obama.

{mosads}The $225 sneaker has a presidential seal fused with Bryant’s mamba logo on its tongue, and its blue and green shades pay homage to the president’s high school.

“Kobe has long looked up to the commander-in-chief, and not just because of his hoops game,” Nike explains. “This unique collection symbolizes the President’s influence on Kobe with colors inspired by his Honolulu high school.”

Bryant’s friendship with the president dates back several years, despite Obama’s allegiance to the Chicago Bulls.

The 17-time all-star and 5-time NBA champion has been complimentary of the president’s signature healthcare law.
