Ann Romney: I really wanted to go on ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Ann Romney says she wanted to compete on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” but ultimately didn’t think she would have the energy for the popular dancing show.

The wife of 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney sat down with Julie Mason, host of SiriusXM’s “The Press Pool” on the POTUS channel, for an episode of “Leading Ladies” on Monday.

“I think you should go on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ ” Mason told her during the interview at SiriusXM’s Washington studio.

{mosads}“I thought so too,” Ann Romney said with a laugh. “They really, really twisted my arm to try to get me to do it.”

In 2012, shortly after the election, Romney was spotted in the audience during a taping of the popular dancing show’s season finale. A few months later, it was revealed that she had turned down an offer to compete on the show.

“I don’t think I have the stamina,” she said on Monday. “Really it was the physical thing that kept me from doing it, but what fun, I love the show.”

When asked whom she would want as a partner if she had gone on the show, Romney replied, “the blonde kid,” referring to Derek Hough.

“But he always picks a partner that will win,” she said. “He doesn’t get the 60-year-old woman. He gets the 20-year-old gold medal figure skater.”

Romney also discussed her new book, “In this Together — My Story,” opening up about living with multiple sclerosis, her fondness for horses and family life.
