Robert Redford walks back Trump praise

Actor Robert Redford is walking back his praise of GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

“[Robert] enjoys him, but not for president,” a spokesman for the film star said on Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report said that Redford is dialing down his kind words for Trump after he heard that the outspoken billionaire was crowing about his compliments on Twitter.

{mosads}“Wow! Such nice words from Robert Redford on my running for president,” Trump tweeted on Tuesday morning alongside a graphic of Redford and an article from The Hill referencing his remarks.  “Thank you, Robert.”

Redford initially surprised fans by offering positive feedback on Trump’s 2016 campaign during an interview on Sept. 2.

“He’s got such a big foot in his mouth I’m not sure you could get it out,” he said of Trump on Ora.tv’s “Larry King Now.”

“I’m glad he’s in there because him being the way he is, and saying what he says the way he says it, I think shakes things up and I think that’s very needed,” the actor added.

“Because on the other side it’s so bland, it’s so boring, it’s so empty.”

Redford also told host Larry King that the 2016 presidential campaign has been absurd.

“[It’s] like ‘Looney Tunes’ and not ‘Merrie Melodies,’” the actor said. “It’s crazy stuff.”

“It’s like, come on, you guys,” he added.  “You’re making us feel foolish, just having to watch you.”

Trump is leading the GOP field of 17 candidates with 27.8 percent support, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of U.S. samplings.
