Sofia Vergara heaped praise on President Obama in a Monday interview, calling him “handsome” and a “charming guy.”
The “Modern Family” star appeared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show to promote her upcoming movie, “Hot Pursuit.”
{mosads}Vergara recalled a 2013 tour of the White House she took with her castmates from the ABC sitcom, ahead of that year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
“We didn’t think we were going to see [Obama] or anything,” Vergara said, “And when we were just passing along, he opened his door, and [was like,] ‘Guys, come in!’”
“His kids are fans of ‘Modern Family,’ so that was cool,” Vergara continued. “He’s a charming guy.”
Obama has also counted himself among the show’s fans, saying in a 2012 interview, “Michelle and the girls and I love watching ‘Modern Family.’”
Stern pressed the Colombian-born actress on what she said to the commander in chief, quipping that she told him, “Hello, papi.”
Vergara replied with a laugh, “He’s very handsome. I didn’t say like that to him. Like I said, ‘Mr. President,’ and everything, ‘hello.’”
“I don’t think he wanted me to talk very profound things,” Vergara said, imagining how a more serious convo with Obama might go: “Sit down right now about the situation with trade in Colombia, Mr. President. Let’s sit down for a second.”
“You have to like, respect his time,” Vergara exclaimed. “He’s the president of the United States. He has more important things to do than talk with me, chit chatting.”
