White House vigil held for Bobbi Kristina
Activists gathered at the White House on Wednesday to hold a vigil for Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
The 21-year-old remains in an Atlanta hospital after being found face down in a bathtub nearly two weeks ago. TMZ.com had reported that the aspiring singer would be taken off life support on Wednesday, the third anniversary of her famous songstress mother’s death.
{mosads}The small group sang songs, waved signs, and collected signatures on an oversized card in support of Brown just outside the security perimeter on the north side of the White House.
Organizer Rocky Twyman, founder of the Pray at the Pump movement, said 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. was chosen as the spot for the vigil “because Whitney Houston sang here many times.” A coroner determined Houston had cocaine in her system when she died in 2012 after drowning in a bathtub.
“So many non-compassionate things have been said about Bobbi’s situation on several entertainment websites,” Twyman later told ITK in an email. “This whole incident reminded us of the bickering that goes on between [President] Obama and Congress.” Twyman created a petition to urge lawmakers to fund drug treatment programs.
“This tension that is mounting, like between Congress and President Obama, there needs to be a sense of forgiveness between them because we have a serious drug problem in this country, and this tension is making it very difficult to get programs through that can help kids in the inner city,” Twyman said.
