Reid: ‘Leave Tom Brady alone’

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is throwing his support behind New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after his four-game suspension was reinstated.

“I agree with Donald Trump. Leave Tom Brady alone. Enough’s enough. So, he put too much air — not enough air in footballs. Big deal. Leave him alone,” he told reporters at a weekly press conference Tuesday.

{mosads}Reid’s comments come after Trump, the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, opened a rally in Rhode Island on Monday by telling supporters, “Let’s start by saying leave Tom Brady alone.”

A federal appeals court announced Monday that it would be reinstating Brady’s suspension. The decision comes after a federal judge nullified Brady’s original four-game suspension imposed by the NFL in September.

The suspension was first imposed after a report found Brady likely knew about Patriots staffers’ efforts to deflate footballs for the AFC Championship Game in January 2015.

Reid slammed the suspension last year, saying it was “stunning that the National Football League is more concerned about how much air is in a football than with a racist franchise name that denigrates Native Americans across the country.”

Reid has repeatedly said the Washington Redskins have a “racist” franchise name.

His comments on Tuesday appeared to catch the other members of the Democratic leadership team off guard, with Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) joking, “Is that it?”
