The Senate starts at 10 a.m. and will continue to work through the nearly two dozen nominations left on the executive calendar.
In the morning, the Senate will vote on the confirmations of Daniel Santos to be a member of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board and Frank Rose to be an Assistant Secretary of State. Both received enough votes to end debate on their nominations on Monday night and are expected to be confirmed by voice-vote.
{mosads}Around 2:30 p.m. the Senate will vote to end debate on the nomination of Sarah Saldana to be an Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security. More votes are expected around 6 p.m.
They are three of 23 nominations the Senate spent nine hours setting up votes for on Saturday.
In addition to clearing all the nominations, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said he wants to complete work on a package of tax breaks and potentially the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act, which provides businesses a government backstop in the event of a terrorist attack.
Reid would need the cooperation of every senator to expedite the votes. Otherwise, procedural hurdles could keep the Senate working until late in the week.
“We’re going to have to be here until we finish our work,” Reid said on the Senate floor Monday. “Whether that’s Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.”
