Friday: NDAA, ‘cromnibus’

The Senate starts at 10 a.m. on Friday and will vote around 3 p.m. on the $585 billion defense bill.

The Senate is also expected to debate the “cromnibus,” which narrowly passed the House Thursday night.

{mosads}Both chambers also passed a two-day continuing resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown while the Senate debates the $1.1 trillion bill, which keeps most of the government funded through September 2015.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he hoped he’d have cooperation from both sides of the aisle to expedite a vote on the funding bill.

Reid has said he also wants to vote on a tax extenders package and several nominations before adjoining for the year. It’s unclear if that can all be accomplished on Friday, as he would need unanimous consent.

This is the Senate’s first Friday session of the year where legislative businesses will be conducted.

Having completely its essential business Thursday night, the House will hold a brief pro forma session at 3 p.m. on Friday to wrap up minor bills.
