Senate clears ambassadorships

The Senate confirmed six ambassadors on Wednesday.

{mosads}Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Secretary of State John Kerry has called on the Senate to clear all pending nominations for his agency. Reid said there were nearly 60 nominees waiting on the executive calendar.

With Republicans taking control of the upper chamber next year, Democrats are more motivated than ever to clear as many of Obama’s executive and judicial nominations as possible before the end of the year.

A list of the ambassadors confirmed by voice-vote on Wednesday follows:

– Maureen Cormack to be U.S. ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina

– Allan Mustard to be U.S. ambassador to Turkmenistan

– Earl Miller to be U.S. ambassador to Botswana

– Judith Cefkin to be U.S. ambassador to Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu

– Robert Yamate to be U.S. ambassador to Madagascar and Comoros

– Michele Sison to be the deputy U.S. Representative to the United Nations and the Security Council of the United Nations

The Senate also confirmed Jon Holladay to be Chief Financial Officer at the Department of Agriculture by voice-vote.
