Thursday: President of Ukraine address, finishing CR
Thursday will start at 10 a.m. with a joint session of Congress, where lawmakers will hear from Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko about his country’s conflict with Russia.
{mosads}On Wednesday, the House passed a continued spending resolution (CR) to fund the government through Dec. 11. The House added an amendment, as requested by President Obama, to authorize the arming and training of moderate Syrian rebels to help combat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
The Senate is expected to vote on the stopgap funding bill by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Debate will start at 1 p.m.
After passage of H.J.Res. 124, the Senate will consider several of President Obama’s executive nominations.
The House will debate consolidated packages of “jobs bills” and measures to boost domestic energy production they have already passed.
House Republicans have said they want to re-vote on the bills as one piece of legislation to emphasize what they view as Senate Democrats’ obstruction before heading back onto the campaign trail.
Democrats are likely to dismiss most of the bills as they already have before in this Congress.
