Senate confirms ambassador to Guatemala

The Senate confirmed Todd Robinson to be U.S. ambassador to Guatemala by voice-vote on Tuesday.

Robinson’s nomination comes as the United States attempts to deal with an influx of child immigrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala being detained along the U.S.-Mexico border.

{mosads}This summer, Vice President Joe Biden visited Guatemala with the aim of dissuading the flow of illegal immigration and to see why so many people were fleeing their home country.

Robinson will be tasked with continuing that effort.

The Senate confirmed several other executive nominations by voice-vote on Tuesday. A list follows:

– Linda Schwartz to be an assistant secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs for Policy and Planning.

– Matthew Harrington to be U.S. ambassador to Lesotho.

– Jane Hartley to be U.S. ambassador France and Monaco.

– Nina Hachigian to be U.S. representative to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

– Gordon Tanner to be general counsel of the Department of the Air Force.
