Corker: Obama lacks judgment on ISIS

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) said it would be “preposterous” for President Obama to not seek approval of Congress to use military force against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“It is totally preposterous that he would not seek our authorization,” Corker, who serves as ranking member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on the Senate floor Wednesday. “To me he’s tremendously lacking in judgment.”

{mosads}Obama is expected to give a speech at 9 p.m. on Wednesday detailing his plans to combat ISIS, a terrorist group that has taken swaths of land in the Middle East and killed two American journalists.

Corker said he hoped Obama would not try to go it alone.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called on Congress to authorize the use of military force against ISIS, but Obama has said he doesn’t need that to launch air and drone strikes against the militants.

“They plan to not come to Congress and I want to say I think that is absolutely preposterous,” Corker said.
