Senate panel to grill EPA administrator McCarthy

The head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Gina McCarthy, is scheduled to testify before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Wednesday.

McCarthy is testifying on the EPA’s proposed regulation of carbon emissions at U.S. power plants. The administration’s goal is to reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent over 15 years.

{mosads}Republicans have accused the EPA of waging a “war on coal,” because the regulation would mostly affect coal-fired power plants.

On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee will be examining the U.S. tax code at a hearing titled, “The U.S. Tax Code: Love It, Leave It or Reform It!”

Lawmakers are working to reform and extend parts of the tax code by the end of the year.
