Senate panel hears from Treasury Secretary Lew

Members of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hear testimony from Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew next Wednesday.

Lew is expected to deliver the “Financial Stability Oversight Council Annual Report to Congress.”

{mosads}Republican senators will likely grill him on the slow economic recovery and what the Treasury Department is doing about it.

On Tuesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee will advance five nominations for ambassadorships, most of which would serve in the Middle East.

Democrats have criticized Republicans for delaying votes on nearly 40 nominations to ambassadorships.

“Republicans have left key diplomatic posts unfilled for months,” Chairman Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) said. “It’s unnecessary, irresponsible and completely unacceptable.”

One of the nominations is for Stuart Jones to serve as U.S. ambassador to Iraq, which is under attack by extremist militant group, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
