Budget Committee to hear from CBO director

The Senate Budget Committee will hear from Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Douglas Elmendorf on Tuesday.

He will testify on the long-term budget challenges and the economic outlook for the next 10 years.

{mosads}Chairwoman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) is planning to use the event to talk about the need for more government investments in job training, education and infrastructure. But Republicans on the committee are likely going to grill Elmendorf on this week’s CBO report that said ObamaCare would cost the economy 2.5 million workers, instead of the originally estimated 800,000 loss.

Republicans pounced on the report, saying it proves the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, harms the U.S. economy.

On Thursday, the new head of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, will testify before the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. She will be delivering the “Semiannual Monetary Policy Report” to Congress.
