McConnell: Dems’ political contortions would make ‘Houdini blush’
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Wednesday that Democrats are “rushing for the exits” when it comes to ObamaCare.
“It’s no wonder Democrats are rushing for the exits … in political contortionisms that would make Houdini blush,” McConnell said on the Senate floor.
{mosads}Republicans have increased criticisms of ObamaCare since 3.5 million people received notices from insurance companies that their existing healthcare plans were being dropped because of mandates within the law. President Obama apologized for having promised, “if you like you’re healthcare plan you can keep it.”
The administration said it would allow insurance commissioners to delay the cancellation of plans for one year, but some Senate Democrats have said that administrative fix doesn’t go far enough.
Eight Democrats have now backed a legislative fix to ObamaCare that would let people keep their health insurance plan if they like it. Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) introduced the Keeping the Affordable Care Act Promise Act, S. 1642, which would allow insurance companies to keep offering insurance plans that would otherwise have to be canceled because they fail to meet new standards under ObamaCare.
McConnell said the failures of ObamaCare shouldn’t come as a surprise since Republicans warned people that they’d lose their existing healthcare under ObamaCare.
“We warned and we warned and we warned,” McConnell said. “The problems we’re seeing shouldn’t come as news to anyone … they were utterly predictable consequences of ObamaCare.”
McConnell said the best solution is a full repeal of the law.
