Tuesday: FAA, energy bill

The Senate will finish its long-term reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs Tuesday.

The move comes after senators easily agreed to end debate Monday evening. The legislation would green light FAA programs through September 2017.

{mosads}Senators had hoped to get additional amendment votes on the legislation, but both parties were blocked late last week.

The Senate is scheduled to take its final vote on the legislation at noon.

After senators wrap up work on the FAA bill, they’re scheduled to turn to a long-stalled energy reform bill.

The Senate reached a deal on the bill late last week, when Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) locked down votes on a series of amendments and the underlying legislation.

Votes on the energy reform bill are expected on Tuesday afternoon. The Senate initially took up the bill earlier this year, but it was stalled for weeks because of a fight over aid for the Flint, Mich., drinking water crisis.

Senators will also recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly party lunches.

Meanwhile, the House will take up nine proposals including a handful targeting the IRS in the wake of tax day, the deadline for filing tax returns. One resolution supports banning IRS employees from getting a bonus until the agency “develops and implements a comprehensive customer service strategy.”

Votes in the House are expected between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
