Tuesday: Federal committees, opioid bill
House lawmakers will take up legislation Tuesday to amend rules on participating in a federal advisory committee.
The legislation would require that any appointments for advisory panels be made without taking into consideration political affiliation unless required under law.
{mosads}The House is expected to vote on a dozen pieces of legislation—including the committee bill—on Tuesday. Votes in the House are expected between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Senate will continue debating a bipartisan opioid bill after senators overwhelmingly agreed to end debate on whether or not to take up the legislation on Monday evening.
The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) authorizes — but doesn’t appropriate — funding for programs to combat prescription drug and heroin abuse, in addition to increasing the availability of naloxone, a drug to treat overdose.
No votes are currently scheduled in the Senate and lawmakers will recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly policy lunches.
