Thursday: Justice Scalia, sportsmen’s bill

The Senate will vote on a resolution honoring the late Justice Antonin Scalia on Thursday.

The likely bipartisan vote, scheduled for 1:45 p.m., comes amid a growing battle over what to do about President Obama’s forthcoming nominee to succeed him.

{mosads}Senators spent hours on the Senate floor Wednesday blasting the other party after Republicans signaled that they would remain united behind not taking up Obama’s pick.

Senate Democrats are expected to escalate that battle Thursday when they stand outside the Supreme Court and call on Republicans to “do your job” by giving whomever the president nominates a hearing and a vote.

Meanwhile, the House will start work on legislation that would expand access to recreational shooting, hunting and fishing on federal lands.

The House passed similar legislation last year with support from dozens of Democrats. A Senate-version of the bill stalled over a battle on amendments.

Votes in the House are expected between 2:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
