Tuesday: ‘Audit the Fed,’ sanctions

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) will get a long-sought vote Tuesday on his controversial “Audit the Fed” legislation.

The Senate is expected to take a procedural vote on taking up the legislation, which would increase congressional oversight of the Federal Reserve and require the central bank to be audited by the Government Accountability Office.

{mosads}Senators are scheduled to take the vote at 2:30 p.m., after recessing from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly policy lunches.

Paul will need 60 votes to overcome Tuesday’s procedural hurdle.

Meanwhile, the House will take up legislation to crackdown on North Korea after the country said it tested a hydrogen bomb.

House lawmakers had been expected to take up the proposal on Monday, but the vote was pushed to Tuesday.

The legislation, from House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.), would block North Korea’s access to hard currency and target its assets for nuclear development.

Senators suggested on Monday evening that they could soon move sanctions legislation, with two separate proposals introduced in the Senate.

First votes in the House are expected between 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. with last votes expected between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
