Monday: Nomination, spending debate
The Senate will convene on Monday afternoon, while the House is out of session for a week-long recess.
Senators will convene at 3 p.m., with a vote on Scott Allen’s nomination to be the U.S. director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development expected around 5:30 p.m.
{mosads}Senators will also continue debate of the fiscal year 2016 bill funding veterans’ benefits and military construction, after it cleared an initial procedural hurdle last week.
Thursday’s vote effectively ended a months-long jam on considering spending bills in the Senate.
A handful of amendments have been submitted to the legislation, which the Senate will continue its work on this week, though lawmakers are expected to be out of session on Wednesday for Veterans Day.
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said last week that “the chairman of that committee, Senator Kirk, is working with the ranking member to move that bill across the floor next week.”
