Thursday: Cyber hurdle, minerals
A long-stalled cyber bill will face its first procedural test in the Senate on Thursday.
Senators are expected to take a cloture vote to end debate on a package of amendments to the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA), at 11 a.m. Sixty votes will be needed to move forward.
{mosads}If that’s successful, senators would then take a vote on a separate amendment from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a Republican presidential candidate, which would end liability protections for companies that break user or privacy agreements with customers.
Senators are also expected to vote on four ambassador nominations at 1:45 p.m.
Meanwhile, the House will take up the National Strategic and Critical Minerals Production Act, which has drawn pushback from the administration over concerns that the legislation would undercut federal decision-making.
Votes in the House are expected between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
