Tuesday: Highway bill, regulations
The Senate will continue its work on the long-term highway bill, as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tries to get the proposal over to the House below the lower chamber leaves.
Senators on Monday evening voted to end debate on a key substitute amendment to the legislation. That sets a 30-hour clock before they can take a final passage vote on the amendment and attach it to the House-passed shell bill.
{mosads}Senators also voted late Monday evening to attach a reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank to its six-year highway bill.
Senators appear determined to pass their long-term bill, even though it’s received a cool reception by House leadership who are suggesting that it will be dead on arrival.
No votes are currently scheduled in the Senate for Tuesday, with lawmakers convening at 11 a.m.. Senators are expected to meet for weekly party lunches between 12:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, the House will vote to reign in the Obama administration’s regulations.
House lawmakers will take up a bill that would require Congress to approve all new major regulations, blocking them from becoming law until lawmakers signed off.
House lawmakers will convene at 10 a.m., with first votes expected between 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Final votes are expected between 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
