Tuesday: NDAA, intelligence
An annual defense policy bill faces a procedural test on Tuesday afternoon.
Senators are expected to take a vote on ending debate to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), as well as separate votes on at least three amendments to the legislation.
{mosads}The Senate is expected to restart debate on the NDAA on Tuesday morning. The first vote on an amendment is expected at 11:30 a.m., on a push from Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) to add an anti-torture measure to the bill.
The Senate is expected to recess from 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. for weekly party lunches. After that they’ll vote on an amendment from Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) on reforming how the military prosecutes military sexual assault cases, as well as an amendment from Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) that would allow the U.S. military to give direct aid to Kurdish peshmerga forces.
The Senate will then take a cloture vote on the defense policy bill.
Meanwhile, the House is expected to take up the 2016 policy bill for the intelligence community.
First votes in the House are expected in the House between 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., with final vote between 5:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.
The House could also try again to advance a trade adjustment proposal that House Democrats blocked last week.
