Wednesday: Appropriations, NDAA
House lawmakers will try to wrap up work on a spending bill for the departments of Justice and Commerce, as well as federal science programs.
The House is expected to convene at 10 a.m. Lawmakers are expected to finish work on the fiscal year 2016 appropriations bill, before moving to the spending bill for the departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development.
{mosads}First votes in the House are expected between 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Final votes have yet to be scheduled.
Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to start work on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) around 11 a.m.
By starting work on the legislation in June, Republicans are marking a shift from recent years when lawmakers scrambled to finish work on the bill at the end of the year.
But, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) suggested Tuesday that just because senators start work on the bill in June, doesn’t mean they will finish their work quickly.
The annual defense bill has garnered a veto threat from the White House.
