Monday: Trade, veterans

The Senate will move forward on “fast track” trade legislation Monday.

Senators are expected to vote on an amendment from Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), as well as an amendment from Sen. James Lankford (R-Oka.)

{mosads}Brown’s amendment would increase the amount of funding for the trade adjustment assistance program, while Lankford’s amendment would require the United States to weigh a country’s religious tolerance when negotiating trade deals.

The Senate will convene at 2 p.m., before restarting debate on the trade legislation, which would allow the president to get his votes approved by Congress by a simple majority vote, at 3 p.m.

Votes on the two amendments are expected around 5:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, House lawmakers will tackle a handful of veteran-related proposals, as well as a Senate-passed bill aimed at curbing human trafficking.

The House is expected to convene at noon for morning hour and 2 p.m. for legislative business.

Votes in the House are expected around 6:30 p.m.
