At noon, the House will convene to begin debate on legislation to establish that a full-time workweek should be defined as 40 hours instead of 30 under the healthcare overhaul. Business groups like the Chamber of Commerce have been pushing for its consideration.
{mosads}The vote on the rule for the legislation could get interesting if conservatives in an uproar over lawmakers receiving apparent retribution for opposing John Boehner (R-Ohio) for Speaker this week vote “no” in protest. Rep. Randy Weber (R-Texas) suggested Wednesday that lawmakers vote against all rules on the floor in a show of solidarity with Florida Republican Reps. Dan Webster and Rich Nugent, who were kicked off the House Rules Committee.
A vote on the rule is expected between 1:15 and 2:15 p.m., while a vote on passage of the bill should be around 3 or 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Senate will convene at 11 a.m. Following leadership remarks, the Senate will proceed to a period of morning business, with members allowed to speak for up to 10 minutes each.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said members may vote on legislation passed by the House on Wednesday to extend the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act.
