The House and Senate convened Tuesday for the first day of the 114th Congress.
Both chambers immediately turned to “live quorum” votes, which essentially serve to take attendance of members. Lawmakers will also take their oaths of office for the new term.
{mosads}House members will elect a Speaker at approximately 12:40 p.m. The roll call of each individual member is expected to take at least an hour.
In the Senate, Vice President Biden will swear in new senators for their first terms and those who were reelected in November.
